Being unable to attend my home club Neston is one of the downsides of being a busy D.G. so I was delighted to be able to catch this weeks meeting and to attend Woodfall Primary with President Eamon to award two very special children with a Be the Inspiration Award. This was to acknowledge their 5 years service to the Rotakids at the school, which has raised thousands of pounds for good causes, in particular for Polio.
So its been another busy week, although the coming week is definitely slowing down.
Tarporley Carnival and the Northwich River Festival made for an amazing weekend. We took full advantage of the good weather and so spent most of the day at each event. Highlights included launching 2000 yellow ducks over the bridge to start the duck race and judging the best float competition at the carnival. The children (and adults) had put so much thought into the theme 'Heroes'. Two events which epitomise Rotary and the community coming together for fun and good causes. It made me so proud to be a Rotarian.
Having two planned visits in Wales we decided to take advantage of the good weather, no work scheduled and our motorhome. So we travelled to a camp site to visit the Rotary Club of Llanidloes. A lovely walk into the town where we spent an enjoyable evening hearing about the amazing work they all do.
The next day we had a leisurely drive, enjoying the beautiful Welsh scenery en route to Phwelli. We had the most spectacular drive, visiting the Clywedog dam and lake en-route as well as and driving through mountainous Snowdonia. We arrived early enough to sit on the beach so I could run through my speech, not my conventional prep for a meeting.
The setting for Phwelli's meeting is an advert to join Rotary in itself- simply stunning. We enjoyed a lovely meal, great company and I was honoured to present David Lampert with a certificate for 50 years service to Rotary. We also had the handover of the donated painting "The Crocuses", which will be raffled off in id of polio, so watch this space.
Lastly, just a note for things to coming up: if you haven't booked your conference accommodation you need to do so soon as possible.
